May Day Mathematical Contest in Modeling is a national contest spontaneously organized by college students. The 15th May Day Mathematical Contest in Modeling held in 2018 has attracted nearly 18,000 participants from 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China as well as 16 countries, and it has been widely reported by many famous media. In order to further strengthen students’ awareness of innovation and cooperation and practical ability, to promote the development of mathematical modeling education and to solve the practical problems of enterprises and institutions in the society, the Organizing Committee decides to hold the 16th May Day Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The relevant matters are hereby notified as follows:
1. Contest time
From 9:00 a.m. May 1st to 9:00 a.m. May 4th, 2019 (Beijing time)
2. Registration time
From 00:00 April 1st to 23:59 April 30th, 2019 (Beijing time)
3. Contest scope and form
All undergraduate students, junior college students, postgraduate students and high school students at home and abroad can participate in the contest in teams generally formed by at most three students and one instructor. The participants shall register in teams.
The contest is divided into four groups, namely, undergraduate student group, junior college student group, postgraduate student group and high school student group. In this contest, undergraduate students can only participate in the contest for undergraduate student group; postgraduate students can only attend the contest for postgraduate student group; high school students can only take part in the contest for high school student group; and junior college (higher vocational college) students may participate in the contest either for junior college student group or for undergraduate student group.
The contest form is in line with that of American Mathematical Contest in Modeling in which teams shall carry out mathematical modeling on any proposition of the three given propositions and submit a research report within 72 hours.
4. Contest awards
The contest contains the first prize, the second prize, the third prize and successful participant certificate. The first prize, the second prize and the third prize accounts for 5%, 15% and 25% of registered teams respectively; all other teams that successfully participate in the contest will get the certificate of “successful participant”.
The Organizing Committee will give “Outstanding Instructor Award” honorary title based on the contest results of teams and “Outstanding Organization Award”, “Outstanding Organizer”, “Outstanding Volunteer” and other honorary titles according to the participation results of schools.
During the summer vacation, Organizing Committee of the contest, together with the Organizing Committee of “Win in Xuzhou: Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in Xuzhou”, will invite part of students wining first prize and teachers gaining “Outstanding Instructor Award” of all kinds to take part in “Summer Camp of May Day Mathematical Modeling” organized in the 5A Tourist Attraction in Xuzhou. Accommodation costs and travel expenses are borne and subsidized by the Organizing Committee.

6. Other instructions
